Ipanema 58 Sailing Classes

ASA 108 , Offshore Passagemaking

Embarking on offshore passage making takes you away from the shore and into the vastness of the open ocean. Despite living near the sea, it’s easy to overlook the fact that the majority of our planet is covered in water. The international waters of the open ocean begin just a short distance from the coastline and stretch across three-quarters of the Earth’s surface. For those who aspire to engage in blue water sailing, especially after obtaining the Coastal Passage Making Certification, it’s time to venture beyond the sight of land and immerse yourself in the ultimate environment provided by a blue water sailing school.

The Offshore Passage Making Course is designed for experienced sailors seeking to enhance their skills, knowledge, and confidence in preparation for long journeys in open waters. The instructors teaching the Passage Making course hold the highest level of certification, qualifying them to impart expertise in Offshore Passage Making.

During this course, you will learn the art of celestial navigation, utilizing the sun, moon, planets, and stars to guide your way. While staying ashore at the resort, you will master these celestial navigation skills. Then, you will board one of our Jeanneau 439 cruising yachts and set sail, putting into practice all the celestial navigation techniques you have mastered in the initial part of this blue-water sailing course.

*Pre-requisites ASA 114, Cruising Catamaran, ASA 104, Bareboat Cruising, ASA 105, Coastal Navigation, ASA 106 Advanced Coastal Cruising, and ASA 107, Celestial Navigation.
