ASA 107, Celestial Navigation Certification

Throughout history, humans have relied on celestial observations to navigate their way on Earth. It was only a few centuries ago that we developed systems to calculate latitude and longitude using the positions of celestial bodies, leading to the emergence of celestial navigation with the use of a sextant. The fundamental concept behind celestial navigation involves determining angles between the observer, the horizon, and predictable celestial bodies such as the sun, moon, planets, and stars.

In today’s technologically advanced era, we heavily rely on precise and user-friendly navigation technology. However, it is crucial to acknowledge that technology can sometimes fail. For the sake of safety and self-reliance, mastering celestial navigation remains an essential skill for all sailors who venture into the open ocean.

By enrolling in the ASA 107 course offered by Modern Sailing School & Club, you will learn to:

– Apply the principles and techniques of celestial navigation to safely navigate a sailing vessel in offshore waters.
– Utilize a sextant to determine your vessel’s position using the Local Apparent Noon method.
– Determine your location by plotting lines of position and fixes based on the sun, moon, planets, and stars.

If you have ever aspired to sail beyond the visible horizon, ASA 107, Celestial Navigation, is the course for you at Modern Sailing School & Club. Acquire the confidence and assurance that no matter how far you venture from the shore, you will always possess the ability to find your way.
